Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. is not happy about a measure on the California ballot that would block massive corporate tax breaks from going into effect in 2010 and 2012. So they're smartly taking a two-pronged approach to help defeat Prop. 24: attacking it through Fox News Business Network and donating over a million to a group working against the Proposition (which would bring in an estimated 1.3 billion in state revenue, helping plug California's massive budget hole.)
In fact, the obligatory "small business owner" trotted out by the network in their efforts to paint the measure as an attack on "mom and pop" shops was conjured up by the group that took in News Corp's donations, "No on 24 — Stop the Jobs Tax." Fox Business Network neglected to disclose the conflict of interest.
As Steve Benen reminds us, News Corp. previously made an undisclosed donation to the Republican Governor's association and to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which has basically made it its job this election to use shady finances to help elect Republicans.
