Tell Big Biz to Stop Undermining Our Democracy & Dump ALEC!

Why are Fortune 500 companies like Wal-Mart, Bayer, Coca-Cola, Kraft, Johnson & Johnson, State Farm and AT&T cozying up behind closed doors with Koch Industries and Big Tobacco to rewrite state laws throughout the country? The Center for Media and Democracy has uncovered that smoke-filled backroom where Big Business and right-wing politicians craft the bills that undermine our wages, our legal rights, our voting rights, and our democracy – and it is called ALEC.

The American Legislative Exchange Council is not a lobby; it is not a front group. It is much more powerful than that. Through ALEC, behind closed doors, corporations provide state legislators with bills that directly benefit their bottom line. Along with legislators, corporations have full membership standing in ALEC. They have their own corporate governing board. They fund almost all of ALEC's operations.

Through ALEC, corporations actually vote behind closed doors on legislative proposals that impact your life and your rights before you even get a chance to see them!

Today, the Center for Media and Democracy unveiled a breakthrough website detailing this corporate collusion.ALECexposed.org uncovers and analyzes over 800 ALEC “model bills” which expose the corporate effort to rewrite the laws in every state. The website also lists ALEC corporations and politicians and other resources that will help you uncover the bills in your state and take action.

Take Action! Send a letter today to ALEC’s corporate leaders telling them to DUMP ALEC!

Today, The Nation Magazine exposed ALEC’s radical agenda through these bills to dismantle public education and other public services, to undercut the wages of US workers, to privatize Medicare and Medicaid, and to rig the voting system in favor of corporate elites like the Koch Brothers (who have been deeply involved in ALEC for years). Click here to see John Nichols from the Nation magazine talk about our efforts to EXPOSE ALEC.

After you send the letter to ALEC’s corporate leaders, help us spread the word about ALEC, help us expose the legislators in your state that are ALEC members, and tell us about your discoveries on Twitter @ALECexposed (or use hashtag #ALECexposed) and Facebook or email us at editor@AlecExposed.org

Thanks helping us spread the word!
